I am sad / nostalgic about the fact I can't slow travel more. Slow travel meaning spend 6-12 months at a place, make friends there over a period of time, maybe date someone, etc.
For all its flaws, I was definitely happier as a person back when I was kind-of doing this. I was more curious about people, and people were also genuinely more interesting to me, they would have different cultural assumptions that are subtle yet important.
I have become less curious about people now. It seems important to understand why.
One reason is just that I am busy working and I don't have lot of free time to slowly invest into making friends.
Another reason is I genuinely find all the people the same. Most indians do share some common cultural assumptions, and even if some assumptions are different, people become even more the same once they shift to a city and live there for some years.
I am not sure how much of this is my projection versus actual reality. I mean, I know plenty of people so yeah I do think this claim is backed by evidence?
At some point even the slow travel gets boring, you can feel terribly lonely, but if you do it in the right place, i.e. not a large city, you eventually find people.
Maybe I just don't like living in a city lmao. If I had zero mission in life, I would prefer to live in a town not a city.
I notice I am confused. What is it about "more knowledge" that corrupts people? Or is it just that people have more relationships on average in a town hence they're happier?
If you know a little about everything, you are by default the same as everyone else who knows a little about everything. If you know only some things, you are by default specialised in the things you know.
I am not sure if I should make a list of places I liked, along with this note. Probably it should be fine but maybe some other time.
I don't know man now that I am trying to remember some of the people I met it just makes me more sad.
I have met people in cities with large social circles, but I don't envy it that much. However with people in a town with a large social circle, I do sometimes envy it a bit. I don't know.
I want this note to now talk about specific feelings I have about specific people I met. But then I can't write those publicly here. So yeah, good bye.
