I have often wondered whether I care about ASI risk because I don't want to be killed/enslaved, or because I don't want others to be killed/enslaved. In other words, is my concern self-interested or altruistic?
I seem to think the answer is a mix of both. I care a lot about not dying by the age of 30 or 35. I also care atleast a little about other people not dying. This answer does make me mildly uncomfortable however.
I am wondering if even my concern for others is atleast somewhat self-interested? As in, I personally don't want the life experience of a world where all other humans are dead. I don't actually know what it is like from the inside for most people to contemplate their own death. I don't know what it feels like to be them and be told they will be murdered. What I do know is that it feels bad to live in a world all alone, knowing that everyone around me who give me happiness will no longer give me that happiness.
I still don't have a clear answer to this question, so this is yet another ramble.
