I've been wanting to experimenting with staying with a roommate for many months lol. Finally ran the experiment.
Major pros
I love the attached swimming pool.
I realised I would swim a lot more if the pool is within same building complex, as opposed to 10-15 min away. This is also why I keep weights in my room as opposed to visiting a gym.
I realised I would swim a lot more if nobody else is in the pool, as opposed to it being crowded.
Activation barrier is less, basically.
I like the big window.
Lot of sunlight but not a lot of heat. This actually matters.
Minor pros
I found it slightly easier to meet my target to 2 human interactions per week.
I have left before I got bored of playing board games with this person. I think I would probably get bored if I played more with them, but haven't hit this threshold yet. Again, reduced activation barrier to scheduling board games, as opposed to having to travel all the way to their place.
This is not a big pro, but is worth mentioning.
Major cons
I feel mildly less safe being around people. I don't think this fear is irrational.
I want the freedom to be able to disappear for a week (or a month, or more) and not have to explain myself to anyone. Especially given my line of work, this is important.
While staying here, I was preparing for ham radio as opposed to working on anything particularly sensitive. But if I was working on something sensitive, I would still prefer not staying with people I don't trust that much.
Costs significantly more than my budget.
On my current budget, I definitely can't afford an attached pool lmao.
Minor cons
Food logistics
Food was supposedly better than my current place, but I didn't notice it much. What I did notice (a little, not a lot) was that food would sometimes not be on time or it would be non-veg, hence forcing me to order and then wait for the order. (I am not blaming my friend at all for this, in case he is reading this.)
