- Christian versus Islamic theocracy more-or-less. Pope trying (and failing) to lead military conflict is fun. Mass rape and slavery was so normal lol. It actually makes me a bit more confused about why 2026 world doesn't have as many leaders committing mass rape for example.
- I wonder if there's a common economic explanation for both. Sex work is more profitable than sex slavery. Capitalism and minimum wage jobs are more profitable than slavery. Status signalling among today's leaders is also more based on stuff like what latest technology and weapons you own, as opposed to the size of your harem. Cue insert yet another Paul graham article here lol.
