Minority groups in India should consider illegally stockpiling weapons

- I deliberately avoid commenting too directly on Indian politics and religion, for reasons of my safety and also because my primary focus currently is not fixing Indian politics. That being said, I will share this one opinion.
- Minority groups in India, including muslims, women, LGBTQ, atheists, etc should consider stockpiling weapons, by breaking the law if necessary.
- By weapons, I mean drones and guns and ammo.
- Obviously don't tell people you own these. The penalties for being caught are harsh. Obviously get gun safety training so you don't accidentally shoot yourself or anyone else.
- As a group: Minority groups being armed reduces likelihood of the minority being genocided, or of a civil war, or their rights being taken away. People are less likely to engage in armed conflict when they know both sides are heavily armed. Minority groups being armed reduces likelihood of dictatorship.
- As an individual: In the worst case, even if your friends and family aren't willing to protect you, even if you have no wealth or political connections, even if the law won't protect you, it is useful to have worst case options. In the end, there is only power, nobody can be 100% trusted.
- I am primarily writing about this as a way to reduce political violence, and not as a way to resolve financial or personal or other disputes.
- First change culture, change offence/defence balance, and then force the law to change. Don't wait for the law to change first, that is not how things typically work.
- I obviously support India passing a law making it legal to bear arms. But don't wait till the law gets passed in order to arm yourselves.
- There are failure modes here. For instance, you could end up wasting your entire life focussing on a small tail risk instead of the upside. You could end up overly distrustful of people beyond a point that is useful. I won't discuss all the failure modes here.
- Just consider this suggestion, implement it if it makes sense, then forget about it and go back to your life goals whatever they are.
