Miscellaneous list of emotionally intense experiences I have had
Disclaimer
- personal
- target audience - not very sure honestly. I first wrote this while trying to figure out what to put on my hinge profile, but I can imagine other types of people also being interested in reading this
Main
- The first time I started singing after coming out of the worst depression of my life.
- The first time I played basketball with friends after coming out of the worst depression of my life.
- This girl in my coaching centre who appreciated me for putting my pen between my specs and my nose.
- Purchasing a large brown teddy bear.
- Reading Mockingjay the 20th time and reminding myself that everything and everyone I care about can be taken from me.
- Spending two hours watching this sunset from Champhai, Mizoram. Being asked by some people to leave their roof.
- Adults may not trust you depending on the place, but children will if you smile.
- Spending the day with a beggar in Kolkata.
- Teaching young kids and realising that younger kids are cooperative by default, but older kids get trained to be competitive instead. Realising that these kids were actually excited to see me, and not pretending.
- Reading federalist papers and realising nothing is new under the sun, when it comes to designing new political institutions.
- Reading Thomas Sowell, loved it for distilling that the core of politics is self-interest, and that human behaviour is emergent not designed.
- Reading the Principia sitting in a isolated arunachali village, and feeling more disconnected from society than I knew was possible.
- The war museum in Ho Chi Minh City that taught me how propaganda truly works. Same for a museum about Bangladeshis somewhere in NE india I don't remember.
- Kissing someone on the beach.
- The first time I fell in love.
- Travel making me realise I can empathise with people very far outside my social circle, and that I should not lose the ability to do this.
- Watching everyone from a skyscraper and visualising everyone die.
- A person from a small town whose life was objectively far worse than mine, yet was still happier than me.
- A house painter I met on a bus.
- The satisfaction of meeting someone after searching for them for two full months.
- The realisation that people are the only thing that make my life worth living.
- Being kicked out by multiple landlords because I did not have my parents' permission to stay.
- The dirtiest hotel in chandini chowk I have stayed in, and wanting to cry the whole time.
- Eating pakodas in a hostel mess with a group of friends.
- A farmer whose family I drew for them because I was in too much pain to know what else to do.
- The realisation that you cannot escape the contents of your mind.
