About

My name is Samuel Shadrach. I graduated from IIT Delhi in 2023. I completed ML Safety Scholars under Dan Hendrycks, UC Berkeley.

I support a pause on research towards superintelligence, to prevent human extinction or permanent dictatorship by 2030.

Many AI researchers including Nobel Prize winner Geoffrey Hinton, most cited research scientists Yoshua Bengio, Prof Stuart Russell, Prof Max Tegmark and others agree that this could be happening, soon.

I read the technical research arguments behind this, and found some of them persuasive. I realised my own life is in danger. Hence I am standing here.

why will ASI be dangerous: list of lethalities by eliezer yudkowsky and criticisms of this work, check out dan hendrycks papers for a more empirical not philosophical view. many researchers like hinton and bengio are just copy-pasting yudkowsky's thinking.
why is a pause possible: check out history of gene cloning, asilomar conference, history of CFCs and ozone hole. I think pausing research done via large industrial processes is possible if we get sufficient public pressure, but pausing research done by random guy in basement is much harder. Very few countries on earth have semiconductor manufacturing facilities, or GPU manufacturing facilities, or GPU compute clusters (aka datacentres) large enough to train the latest AI model. If we had sufficient public pressure we could either publicly monitor use of these facilities, or else destroy these facilities. US-China international treaty is required to pause research worldwide.
