Board games I like
- Chess
- I am above-average player at chess compared to average person who plays chess online. Highest rating I got is 1750 on lichess bullet (1+0) games.
- Update
- I played two FIDE tournaments in 2026-08, "performance rating" is around 1350 which I think is accurate. (Need 1400 to be a FIDE-rated player.)
- Search FIDE ID "583074260" on chess-results.com. I decided to doxx myself after all. [1]
- I no longer put much serious effort into actually improving, such as memorising openings or studying theory. I just play for timepass nowadays. I am aware I could improve a lot if I was serious about it.
- Catan
- Same, above-average player compared to average person who plays catan online.
- Secret Hitler. Resistance, Avalon
- I am a below-average player, but I like playing anyway.
- New board games
- I think I'm quite good at general game-playing. As in, if you had me play against others many new board games that neither them nor us have ever played before, I think I'd do decently well. Given a set of rules, I can often quickly deduce what the meta would look like, without having to actually play the game many times first. (I have some experience here, although I may want to play with more skilled people to get a better sense of my actual skill level here is.)
Side Note for myself
[1] I guess if someone wants to stalk me, plant a bug on me, rob me or kidnap me, I've given them an easy way to do so. Just setup a cron job to pull this page, and then visit in-person when you notice I am at a tournament. I am a little surprised that chess tournaments are this public. But this just further reinforces my prior that maintaining privacy against dedicated attackers is really hard and I should not bother until it is really critical. Offense wins defense loses
