Update
- I override this post. I have managed to stay sober for 3 months without any roommate. I have other factors pushing me towards staying alone. I will continue staying alone, ideally until I find either a cofounder I am happy with or a girlfriend I am happy with, but at the very least for the next three months.

Stay with a sober roommate
Disclaimer
Main
- Multiple empirical datapoints from your personal life last month saying this is by far the single most effective way for you to stay sober, given your current immediate situation. If the roommate has some context on your ASI risk stuff that's a plus, but even that is not completely necessary. If the roommate is a friend that is a strong plus, because atleast then they non-zero care about your struggles.
- Also remove all triggers from your environment, avoid visiting places where you consumed substances before, avoiding visiting people who you consume substances with. Prefer infrequent video calls if you don't want to lose those friendships completely.
- (update 2026-03-02) Ended up throwing a book and a belt and ashtrays and stuff away, not because there was anything wrong with the book or the belt, but because I bought those while drunk and don't want to be reminded of those memories when I look at what's in my room. honestly if it gets too bad, I'll shift rooms
- (update 2026-03-03) Also, I have sent many people I know a list of messages I regret sending while under influence. That way they are also reminded why exactly I want to quit. And I will lose even more self-esteem if I continue consuming.
update (2026-03-12)
- Need to wait 2 weeks alone, for more roommates. So be it.
