Update

I think my new Plan B is reading about political questions associated with human genetic engineering.
I think my Plan B depends on why I gave up my Plan A. The reason matters.

If I was not working on my current cluster of projects around whistleblowing and AI companies, what would I be working on instead?

Maybe trying to understand in depth why cost of solar energy is going down, and maybe working in the field to reduce cost of energy.
Maybe not working on an altruistic project at all, and just meeting new people of cultures very different from mine.

(My biggest issue with this idea is that close relationships don't scale, and a lot of the interesting information can only be obtained in close relationships. Which prompts me again to study SDM in a more theoretical manner.)
